The major aim of the scheme is to address the location-specific issues concerning groundnut production and productivity and also to spread and popularize groundnut in traditional and non-traditional areas of the country. The AICRP-Groundnut co-ordinates multidisciplinary research on the zonal, regional and national problems having bearing on production and productivity of groundnut through AICRP-Groundnut scientists located at the State Agricultural Universities (SAUs). Unlike other oilseeds, groundnut research under AICRP is carried out both during Kharif and rabi-summer seasons under diverse agro-ecological situations grouped into five agro-climatic zones which spread over 14 states of India
