All India Coordinated Research Project on Vegetable Crops was started during the fourth five-year plan in 1970-71,
to provide national grid for multi-locational testing of the vegetable technologies developed by various research
institutes and state agricultural universities. During the XI Plan, NSP (Vegetable) and AICRP on Vegetable Crops were merged together for better utilization of manpower and resources.
Head Quarter of AICRP on Vegetable crops is now located at Indian
Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi. Presently there are 29 centres (08 main and 21 sub), 27 voluntary centres
and 26 co-operating centres under the project.
