Thrust Area

  • To develop state-wise distribution maps of nematodes
  • To validate and document crop losses and nematode management technologies for irrigated and rain-fed cropping systems
  • Multi-locational on-farm testing of nematode management options for root-knot, cyst, reniform, lesion and borrowing nematodes
  • To determine cropping systems for nematode management
  • To investigate cumulative damage potential of ectoparasitic nematodes
  • To identify sources of resistance and develop nematode-resistant cultivars
  • To isolate, identify and develop indigenous strains of entomopathogenic nematodes for the management of major insect pests of crops
  • To  update the knowledge of scientists through specialized short-term training programs particularly in the area of molecular diagnostics of plant-parasitic and entomopathogenic nematodes
  • To impart training to state govt. field functionaries for creating awareness about nematode damage symptoms and their management strategies
  • Training of farm women and men to culture native strains of entomopathogenic  nematodes for application in local fields in different crops
  • Demonstration of nematode management technology in rice, vegetables, fruit crops and crops are grown in polyhouses
  • Video documentation of nematode damage symptoms, biology, and management technology
  • Translation of the existing videos into regional languages and distribution to different centres
  • Promotion of TSP in tribal notified areas of selected states
