Decontamination of pesticide residues in food commodities


Pesticide residues are detected in vegetables, fruits, pulses, cereals and other food commodities after their pre-harvest or post-harvest application. The deposition of pesticides in different food parts varies with the nature of the pesticide applied, type of food commodity, and the environmental conditions. Decontamination of pesticide residues from food commodities therefore remains the main concern for consumers particularly when these are consumed raw. Several decontamination procedures are being evaluated for effective removal of pesticide residues from various vegetable such as okra, chilli, cabbage, cauliflower, tomato and brinjal
